Facebook has an iLike application that is similar to this. It lets you add music to your profile and allows visitors to play a snippet at your profile and has a link to let you buy it via iTunes. Not perfect, but still...

BTW I found your blog from Michael Rubin's post at Daily Fix, and am going to subscribe. Thanks!

I associate the subtleties of marketing with comedy. It is so much more than just what you say. It is how you say it. Timing. Atmosphere. Mood. Body Language. All important things that can make or break a marketing effort, or a comedy routine.

Mack,

What a GREAT idea. Plus you get to see what your friends are listening to which helps you find new music.

There are so many untapped music promotion channels online. What I want to see is the music labels let me put a widget on my blog that lets a visitor play songs from a list I provide (my Top 10 fav songs of the moment, iTunes playlist, etc). The visitor can listen to, and BUY any of the songs they like, right there via the widget, without ever leaving my blog. And I get a cut of the sale. I think we'll see this eventually as I've talked to at least one major label that's considering something very close to this.
