IBM’s Innovation Jams
For the past few years IBM has been inviting its employees to be part of 72-hour online innovation jams, brainstorming about everything from IBM values to new product and service ideas. It’s a great example of the business value of social media, which at its core is a platform of participation and sharing.
The Fall 2008 issue of the MIT Sloan Management Review has an in-depth article about IBM’s experience: “An Inside View of IBM’s Innovation Jam.” IBM brought 150,000 employees and stakeholders together to help move its latest technologies to market. Both the difficulties it faced and the successes it achieved provide important lessons.

As stuffy as some people think IBM might be, they do keep on innovating where a lot of people don’t realize. I remember when my company was hosting virtual conferences in Second Life, IBM had the biggest presence there over just about anybody. Pretty cutting edge.

IBM has a viable Technology with educational ICT development in focus, Currently a plan is on going with University of Lagos, Nigeria to put IBM Technology infrastructures in place to ease deliverables to students of the University so as to meet up with other Universities abroad.

IBM is known for its versatility and robustness, definitely IBM Technology actually shows to the IT world of today the road map to the current Technologies. University of Lagos is currently in partnership with IBM to ease educational classroom deliverables which will go a long way to help our students.

The experience my bosses told me about using IBM Technology is amazing, I think it is high time IBM exploded more expecially in Nigeria so that we can overcome some problems we are having with the current Technologies.
